If you are a Ugandan Executive or an aspiring member of the Ugandan Executive class, then here are some sports and places to start you off on this journey.

  • Formula One

This racing sport captivates many Ugandan executives and is often a conversation topic in their circles. Although few people will ever get a chance to be in Monaco for the races, one can still passively follow Formula one and get themselves versed with Verstappen the person, or Mclaren racing team. Executives can also get involved in the Ugandan motor-racing community.

  • Tennis

We find this the coolest and easiest game to pick up. It also makes for a good one on one meeting opportunity. Important also for people looking to build partnerships and find collaborative platforms. There are a number of Tennis courts. One of those is at Kabira Country Club in Bukoto.

  • Golf

Now, this is mostly popular among Board members and Directors in Uganda. It’s pretty an expensive sport, and also requires time and dedication. It’s also the biggest business network in the country. Membership to one golf club will usually open up access to many other golf clubs in the country and out of the country. The Kampala Golf Club is the most popular one, but in Arua, Fort Portal, Mbarara and across the country, one will find a golf club.

  • Combat Sports

This has been popularized by Mark Zuckerberg’s transformation with Brazillian Jiu jitsu. It is good for an executive looking to discover themselves, find themselves but also create a similar transformation like Mark Zuckerberg.

  • Hiking

One of those sports activities that will get you nods and cheers as it’s taken root among many executives. Hikes usually happen on mountains or in less chartered territory. Many executives are now doing at least a mountain in the country with Rwenzori being the peak for every hiking fanatic in the country.

  • Running/Jogging

Can you run at least 10 kilometres? Most corporate companies now sponsor or organize runs. Running and jogging is the other cheaper way to find something to engage with other executives. There are many running groups in different suburbs of the country. In Naalya, there’s a running group that often starts off at Oryx Naalya every Saturday morning.

  • Swimming

Few Ugandans can swim, but swimming is a great way to relax every part of the body. It usually takes around 5 to 10 lessons for someone to get comfortable by themselves around a pool. It’s recommended to pick up at least two swimming styles and perfecting those. Then one can be that executive that fully enjoys a resort during a company get away.

Big on the list is travel. The mark of every executive is travel, because travel brings exposure. It’s a way of cultivating cultural intelligence. We recommend that Ugandan executives start off with in-country travel. Travel to places like Jinja, Mbale for the start as you build up the monetary capital to enable you take on outside travel.

  • Football

This is now going out of style as it’s considered too mainstream. Everyone can discuss the Premier league, and everyone claims to kick a ball. Also, it’s usually too crowded at the football pitches thus diluting the ability to hold beautiful conversations. Nonetheless, it’s still a sport that one can have in their bucket.

  • Fashion

Especially for the female executives, nothing is as awesome as a fashion-intelligent executive. Knowing how to differentiate those perfumes by their scents for example, knowing about the in and out fast fashion trends. You can come in handy wherever you work with your fashion tips.
