Kampala, Uganda – [8th September 2025] – A bold new African startup has entered the energy landscape with a clear mission: to accelerate Africa’s transition to green and sustainable energy by solving one of the industry’s most pressing challenges, storage. Quest, a Uganda-based energy company, officially launched operations this week, positioning itself as a pioneer in the development, production, and trading of batteries tailored for the renewable energy sector.
With Africa’s energy demand surging and climate change intensifying, the continent stands at a crossroads. While renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower have shown immense promise, the lack of affordable and reliable storage solutions continues to slow adoption. Quest is determined to bridge this gap by providing innovative, cost-effective battery technologies that make clean energy more accessible and sustainable for households, businesses, and industries.
“We believe storage is the current constraint in the clean energy adoption battle,” said Kisakye, one of Quest’s founders. “If we can solve for the cost of batteries and make storage more accessible, then we are one step closer to building a truly sustainable future for Africa and beyond.”
Quest is not only focused on affordability, but also on designing products that are durable, efficient, and environmentally responsible. The startup aims to localize solutions by leveraging Africa’s talent, resources, and entrepreneurial spirit, while tapping into global networks of innovation.
According to industry experts, Africa’s renewable energy sector is projected to attract billions in investment over the next decade. With storage as the linchpin for unlocking this growth, Quest’s entry marks a significant milestone in shaping the continent’s clean energy future.
Quest plans to roll out its first line of energy storage products in the coming year, targeting both urban and rural markets. The company is also exploring strategic partnerships with solar providers, utility companies, and governments to scale impact and extend clean energy access to underserved communities.
“Energy is the foundation of development,” Kisakye added. “By addressing storage, we are enabling not just green energy adoption, but also economic growth, innovation, and improved livelihoods across Africa.”
